How can we help people and organizations experience the humanitarian consequences of climate change and extreme events? The Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre has worked with GFDRR, dam operators and partners to explore augmented reality (AR), blending playful interactivity with innovative approaches to data visualization for disaster risk management.

In this app you will see data on the amount of water flowing through the Nangbéto Hydropower Dam in Togo, West Africa, from 1965 to 2016. There are notable differences before and after 1986, when the dam was built: more than half of downstream flood days were reduced, thanks to water absorbed by the reservoir.

You will see two years highlighted, 2010 and 2016, with the most recent floods. On the information panel on your right you will see pictures, video and data on how humanitarian innovations are helping to save lives and money by linking forecasts and early action.
